Post-Traumatic Arterial Priapism in a Child

Abstract

|
Arterial priapism occurred in an 8-year-old boy after blunt perineal trauma. Painless and persistent erection developed immediately, and the penis was painless to palpation. By arterial blood gas analysis and color Doppler sonography, arterial
priapism
was confirmed. Internal pudendal angiography revealed an arteriocavernous fistula. The cavernosal artery was embolized with a coil and Gelfoam, and penile detumescence was achieved. Color Doppler sonography of the penis 6 days after embolization
showed
normal systolic and diastolic velocity. At 2-month follow-up, erectile capacity was similar to his pretraumatic status, and nocturnal erections were normal.
